The Last Matisse in Rome
Masterpieces on Paper at the Infantry Museum
The exhibition The Last Matisse – Morphologies of Paper brings to Rome a unique selection of over 100 works on paper by the great French master Henri Matisse.
The exhibition, hosted at the Museo Storico della Infanteria from February 28 to June 28, 2026, explores one of the most extraordinary moments in the artist’s career: the period in which, limited by illness, he developed a new form of expression through his famous papier découpés, cut-out compositions that seem to dance in space with essential colors and shapes.
The exhibition traces the main stages of Matisse’s work on paper, from drawings for books such as Verve magazine to the iconic cut-out compositions that revolutionized modern art.
