The Rome Opera's Summer Season
The Rome Opera's summer season moves to the Circus Maximus
The summer of 2026 promises to be particularly rich in cultural events for visitors to the capital. Among the most anticipated events is the new summer season of the Rome Opera House, which this year will take place in the extraordinary setting of the Circus Maximus, from June 29 to July 31. The choice of the new venue is due to the restoration work being carried out at the Baths of Caracalla and offers the public the opportunity to attend performances in one of the most iconic and evocative sites of ancient Rome.
The program offers a journey through opera, dance, film, and live music, transforming the Circus Maximus into a vast open-air theater capable of seating up to 6,000 spectators. The highlight of the season will be Giuseppe Verdi’s *Aida*, one of the most beloved works in the international opera repertoire, which will be staged on several dates throughout the month of July.
In addition to major opera productions, the program will feature highly anticipated events such as “Roberto Bolle and Friends,” the ballet “Romeo and Juliet,” Carl Orff’s famous “Carmina Burana,” and the evocative “Gladiator in Concert,” which will combine a screening of Ridley Scott’s iconic film with a live performance of the soundtrack.
For guests of the Hotel Raffaello, the Circus Maximus is just over a 15-minute walk away, and this event is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating experiences to enjoy during a summer stay in the capital.
